A hernia occurs when an organ is pushed through a hole in the muscle wall or tissue. It is visible as a bulge on the body, and is accompanied by discomfort and pain. If not removed, hernias can become trapped outside the abdominal wall, resulting in a total cut-off of blood supply, creating potentially lethal complications.
